SENIOR MARKETING MANAGER

Join a team that’s working to get the word out about how the Modern Language Association can serve its members and the broader public. The senior marketing manager, under the supervision of the director of outreach, will plan and coordinate campaigns to stimulate sales of MLA publications, promote membership, and encourage general awareness of the association's activities. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the humanities, has a strong track record of connecting with audiences, and can bring fresh ideas to our marketing and outreach team.

Responsibilities

Working with the director, outreach colleagues, and members of other departments, you’ll

·   coordinate print, digital, and e-mail marketing campaigns for MLA publications, events, and membership;

·   write copy for promotional messages;

·   set sales projections for association publications;

·   work with the MLA’s book distributor to help MLA publications reach a wider audience;

·   develop content marketing, search advertising, and other projects to help expand the MLA’s audience;

·   manage budgets for MLA marketing activities;

·   produce and analyze sales reports; and

·   coordinate exhibits at the MLA convention and other conferences.

 Qualifications

·   At least five years of full-time experience in marketing and promotions, including digital marketing, branding, social media marketing, and print advertising; experience in an association or nonprofit setting preferred

·   Knowledge of and experience with the humanities higher education landscape required; knowledge of the publications industry preferred

·   Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences

·   Ability to work collaboratively with outreach colleagues, product stakeholders, and outside partners

·   Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data to make strategic decisions about association sales and marketing

·   Experience with developing and managing complex budgets

·   Strong knowledge of marketing and design tools, including Google AnalyticsGoogle AdsGoogle Tag Manager, CRMs, InDesign, and Photoshop; knowledge of HTML and CSS desirable

Salary is commensurate with experience. The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans with no shared premium cost. 

This is a full-time, on-site position at the MLA offices in downtown New York City. Candidates must be able to work legally in New York State.
