Description

The University of Illinois Press seeks a Programmer/Developer for Web Systems for the management of electronic and digital asset distribution for the University Press’s publishing operations. The Programmer/Developer for Web Systems manages non-interactive website assets and the user experience with the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The Programmer/Developer for Web Systems participates in application development on both web and in-house projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Maintains the Press’s web site.  This includes the web site’s content and internal and external functionality and presentation, as well as direct-to-consumer sales of Press book and journal titles.

·         Maintains expertise in the OJS platform for tracking submission and peer review of journal articles. Instructs new users and provides support to end users.

·         Performs e-commerce processes and new product developments.  Maintains integration with University iPay system, developing and upgrading as needed.

·         Provides user support and troubleshooting for individual and institutional member access to e-journal content.

·         Coordinates, produces, and uploads book files to outside platforms (e.g., JSTOR, MUSE, Bibliovault, UM Archives, University Press Scholarship Online).

·         Creates web companion sites for selected books and journals.  Coordinates, produces and uploads supplemental materials.

·         Insures implementation of accessibility standards and compliance with State and University online policies.

·         Assist in the development of in-house FileMaker applications.

·         Serve as back-up person to the other IT Associate responsibilities.

·         Other tasks appropriate for Programmer/Developer for Web Systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: 

·         Three years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession.

·         College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s degree equals two (2) years.

·         Demonstrated experience with web programming and design, HTML and XML formats, and database programming.

Preferred: 

·         Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field.

·         Experience with FileMaker.

Successful Candidates will also have:

·         Familiarity with Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP.

·         Extensive database programming experience.

·         High level of technical knowledge.

·         Must be detail oriented.

·         Able to multitask.

·         Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:

This is a full-time Civil Service IT Technical Associate position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after February 27, 2020.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
