The University of Illinois Press seeks a Programmer/Developer for Database Administration to code and maintain web-based application systems and maintain Linux servers. This position creates specifications and coding policies to implement in online development, and also contributes to the design and development of in-house applications on the FileMaker platform.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Contributes to the design and coding of in-house workflow management applications and other business applications and utilities in FileMaker.  

2.  Maintains the Press’s FileMaker-based integrated relational database (IRIS) for Press-wide information and work flow. Develops and customizes the platform to meet requests from Press staff for new features and reports. Updates database with latest versions of FileMaker and ensures all functionality is maintained. Documents all scripts/special programming for business resumption. Maintains and updates the IRIS Operational Manual.  

3.  Maintains and upgrades as needed: 

• Online IPAY applications:  Journal Subscriptions, Conference Registrations, exam copy, subsidiary rights

• Society Portal systems

• Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform

• Linux operating system infrastructure

4.  Maintain and oversee the software (Think) used by UI Press Journals for subscription fulfillment. 

5.  Runs requested reports and exports of data from IRIS into multiple file formats for outside vendors, distribution center systems, and internal use.  

 6.  Assists with preparation and transmittal of book and journal production files. Assists with conversion of production files to create HTML-formatted materials for Press-hosted journals sites. 

7.  Serve as back-up person to the other IT Associate responsibilities.  

8. Other tasks appropriate for Programmer/Developer for Database Administration. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: 

·         Three years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession.

·         College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s degree equals two (2) years.

·         Demonstrated experience with web programming and design, HTML and XML formats, and database programming.

Preferred: 

·         Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field.

·         Experience with FileMaker.

Successful Candidates will also have:

·         Familiarity with Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP.

·         Extensive database programming experience.

·         High level of technical knowledge.

·         Must be detail oriented.

·         Able to multitask.

·         Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time Civil Service IT Technical Associate position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after February 27, 2020.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
