Manuscript Editorial


The Modern Language Association, a nonprofit publisher of works on the study of language and literature, seeks to grow its editorial team. This new copyeditor position is full-time and on-site at the MLA’s New York office.


  • Copyediting manuscripts in Microsoft Word for the association’s journal, book, and online publications


  • Minimum of five years’ experience in copyediting scholarly or reference publications
  • Knowledge of style and usage guides, especially The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience copyediting for a university press, scholarly society, or major publisher a plus
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in a field of language or literature, is required

Salary is commensurate with experience. The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans with no shared premium cost.
