Description

Princeton University Press (PUP) seeks an experienced Promotions Manager to oversee trade publicity campaigns and shape consumer-focused communications strategy for their assigned subject lists. Reporting to the Global Director of Publicity, the Promotions Manager will be part of the management team as the role will have 1 direct report.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designs and implements publicity campaign for approximately 12-15 trade titles per season, in order to promote the sale of books, grow author platforms, and expand brand awareness of PUP. This typically involves: 
  1. Identifying the audience and appropriate media outlets and venues for assigned titles and larger subject list.
  2. Researching, composing and developing media lists and contacts for assigned titles. Researching and regularly expanding subject-specific media lists.  
  3. Writing press materials, including press releases and talking points, for assigned titles.
  4. Collaborating seasonally with the Creative Media Lab to identify digital assets for assigned titles and subject list promotions.
  5. Pitching interviews, excerpts, op-eds, and feature articles.
  6. Organizing and booking author events and tours. Attending local author events. 
  7. Tracking publicity hits and notable social media hits and communicating publicity updates to sales, marketing, and editorial staff.
  • Works closely with Global Promotions Director, Publicists, and Promotions Associates to shape seasonal and long-term strategic communications plans for subject lists, including both earned media and social media.
  • Plays an active role in managing author relations for subject lists.
  • Presents and pitches seasonal lists to media and event coordinators. Prepares and circulates meeting notes with actionable items.
  • In communication with Global Promotions Director, manages an annual events/tour budget for subject lists, including preparing and updating budget projections. Pitches, coordinates and attends author events. Attends and conducts market research at major conferences for subject lists.
  • Drafts publicity portion of marketing plans for subject-appropriate trade titles during trade bidding.
  • Works with editors to identify target blurbs/blurber for subject lists.
  • Participates actively in cross-departmental meetings, including: Project Review, Sales Conference, Seasonal Launch Meetings, Cover Design meetings for subject list.
  • Manages and mentors one direct report, including overseeing regular check ins and the PDR process.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years publicity experience, 6 to 7 years preferred; as well as prior management experience and strong interest in mentorship is strongly preferred.
  • Established media contacts and a demonstrated history of securing coverage in national outlets.
  • Excellent collaborative and communicative skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with an emphasis on detail, budget and time planning, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media channels, including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Experience using Cision or a comparable database is preferred.
  • Regular travel within the Northeast for author events and media meetings, semi-regular travel nationally for conferences.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for author and industry events, with comp time offered.
  • Some remote flexibility to work will be considered for applicable applicants.
