Description

Princeton University Press seeks a skilled multi-tasker with strong logistics & coordination experience, interpersonal skills, and has a genuine interest in books, academia and publishing. The Special Sales Assistant supports all areas of sales and marketing at the Press and reports directly to the Associate Director of Sales & Marketing. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Special Sales
  1. Research potential sales channels and customers outside of traditional bookstore sales.
  2. Create pitch letters and materials and send to potential/existing customers, including but not limited to national parks; natural history accounts; museums; specialty retail and wholesale companies.
  3. Create, send, and monitor campaigns through Constant Contact, MailChimp or other email marketing systems.
  4. Pursue special sales leads (including but not limited to those noted on Author Promotion Forms, suggestions from colleagues, etc.).
  5. Work with Associate Director of Sales and Marketing to set up reporting tools for special sales.
  • Supporting Associate Sales Director in working with domestic sales representatives
  1. Providing up-to-date information to reps on existing and forthcoming titles, as necessary.
  2. Sending out galleys and samples of finished books to reps and their customers.
  3. Accessing and sending sales reports to reps, as necessary.
  4. Tracking rep and customer orders through our distributors’ systems.
  • Events
  1. Manages in-house event calendar: Plans book sales for upcoming PUP author events.
  2. Outreach to event organizers and Ingram intermediary: Phone and email outreach to event organizers to coordinate book sales, and liaises with the warehouse to ensure orders are placed for a timely delivery to the event.
  3. Coordinating with independent booksellers: Liaises with local/independent booksellers to arrange for books if direct purchase not feasible and at author request.
  4. Flyers: Make flyers for newly released books using InDesign. Sends with other materials for events if book sales are not feasible, or upon request.
  • Sales Conference Preparation
  1. Tip Sheets: Assists the sales team in writing tip sheets for paperback and new cloth editions. Along with tip sheets, collate materials such as sample chapters and other materials to be included in electronic and print sales kits.
  2. Mailings: Post-sales conference, sends kits, order forms, and other materials to the reps (in print and/or electronic versions).


Qualifications:

 

  • Education: A minimum of a 4-year degree and some experience in publishing is preferred, and/or genuine interest in and intellectual engagement with the publication of scholarly books.
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and ability to familiarize with other databases quickly. Familiarity with InDesign helpful, but not necessary.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain professional demeanor and convey information accurately. 

 

  • Good time management and ability to multi-task; attention to detail.

 

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong sense of follow-through. 
  • A positive outlook, and proactive and efficient approach to handling tasks in a busy department.

 

Base Salary: $37,000
