The Washington State University Press seeks an energetic, forward-looking individual with experience in manuscript acquisition, and editorial and fiscal management, to serve as the editor-in-chief on a highly motivated team of resourceful, respectful publishing professionals dedicated to bringing scholarship to life.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for soliciting and evaluating submissions; acquiring and developing 12 to 15 new outstanding books annually; leading the peer review process; manuscript editing; guiding projects through design and production; have demonstrated success in creating an operating budget and meeting financial goals in a scholarly publishing environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships are essential. Some travel required.

WSU Press plays a vital role in the Pacific Northwest’s literary life, publishing books that focus on the diverse history, cultures, and landscapes of Washington and the Pacific Northwest, with an emphasis on regional trade books and scholarly books in Western, Native American, and environmental history.

This is an on-site, full-time appointment at a leading land-grant public research university in Pullman, Washington, located in the heart of the rolling hills of eastern Washington which National Geographic described as “a paradise called the Palouse.”
