The University of South Carolina Press is seeking an acquisitions editor to join our team. Established in 1944, the Press is South Carolina’s oldest and largest book publisher, specializing in outstanding scholarly and regional trade publications with excellent production values. With approximately 1,300 books in print and 45-55 new books published each year, the Press is essential in enhancing the scholarly reputation and worldwide visibility of the University of South Carolina, the state’s flagship research university. The acquisitions editor will be asked to:  

  • Envision, commission, evaluate, and contract approximately 25 new and financially viable projects annually in core academic fields and regional studies
  • Transmit approximately 25 projects annually
  • Initiate new series, both scholarly and trade
  • Serve on the acquisitions committee and present projects to the faculty press committee
  • Represent the Press at scholarly conferences and special events     

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree and 2 years professional experience related to book acquisitions, or bachelor’s degree and 4 years professional experience related to book acquisitions. Telecommuting is not available for this position.
