University Press Books for Libraries

2015 "Best of the Best" at the ALA

The "Best of the Best" from the University Presses: Books You Should Know About
2015 American Library Association Annual Conference
San Francisco Marriott Marquis Club Room
June 28, 2015; 1:00 PM

University presses represent an often-undiscovered gold mine of resources for school and public libraries. At this program, three librarians will present some of their favorite titles from the books they reviewed for the 2015 edition of Unversity Press Books Selected for Public & Secondary School Libraries (see below for presenters and selections). To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the bibliography, the session will be headlined by two authors whose books received an "Outstanding" rating:

Rose Eichenbaum, author of The Director Within: Storytellers of Stage and Screen (Wesleyan University Press), visited with 35 modern day storytellers—directors of theater, film and television—who speak with revealing clarity about the entertainment industry, the role and life of the director and how theatrical and cinematic storytelling impacts our culture and our lives.

Lee Wilson, author of Rebel on Pointe: A Memoir of Ballet and Broadway (University Press of Florida), shares a story for finding a passion in life and moving beyond familial pressures and societal norms. Her journey brought her to dance for European royalty, for gun-toting revolutionaries in Algeria, American aristocrats at the Metropolitan Opera and a galaxy of stars on Broadway.
