AAUP Executive Director to Retire

Executive Director Peter Givler has announced his planned retirement date of June 2013, after 16 years leading AAUP. Givler's decision allows the board time to undertake a stable transition, on which the membership will be kept up-to-date as plans progress.

New AAUP Members

AAUP is pleased to welcome two new members, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy of Cambridge, MA, and Medieval Institute Publications of Kalamazoo, MI. Congratulations to University of Rochester Press on their graduation to full membership.

2012 Annual Meeting

The 2012 AAUP Annual Meeting will be held June 18-20 at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza. Program updates and announcements can be found on the Annual Meeting Facebook page and Twitter feed (#AAUP12).

Books for Understanding News

This fall, AAUP has added to the Books for Understanding program with a revision and thorough update of the September 11, 2001 list in time for its (and the program's) tenth anniversary, and the publication of a new Capital Punishment bibliography.

E-book Platform Updates

Two of four university press e-book platforms have launched since our publication of "University Presses Partner Up with New E-Book Platforms" in August. Congratulations to Cambridge University Publishing Online and Oxford University Press Scholarship Online. The Project MUSE University Press Content Consortium is closing in on a January launch date, with a beta site now available for perusal; Books at JSTOR is expected to go online next June.

National Book Award Winner

Congratulations to Northwestern University Press, whose TriQuarterly imprint published the latest volume of Nikky Finney's poetry: Heads Off & Split: Poems–the 2011 National Book Award winner for poetry!

Mellon Funds Patron-Driven Acquisitions Study

Johns Hopkins's Kathleen Keane and Terry Ehling, along with Joseph Esposito and Kizer Walker, have been awarded funding by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to study patron-driven acquisition models in academic libraries, and the impact on book publishers. Periodic updates of the project will be posted on the Scholarly Kitchen blog.

Frankfurt Book Fair 2011

Peter Givler, AAUP Executive Director, attended this year's Frankfurt Book Fair in October. Expect a full report to be distributed in the coming week.
