Message from the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and Its Collection Development Evaluation Section (CODES)

Each year the AASL and the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) provide librarians with valuable recommendations of the best university press books for general users. The purpose of the list is to help librarians and educators select high-quality publications to improve the educational curricula and the research process. The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and its Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES) are proud to work with the AAUP and the AASL to produce the 26th edition of this publication.

The core list of titles in this bibliography is intended for all types of school and public libraries, and it fills the collection development gaps for all types of subjects and issues. Each entry has a clear and concise description that will answer a collector's questions about the scope of a title. There are many important bibliographies and lists for collection development; however, this guide is important and unique because many titles from academic publishers can also be used in school and public libraries.

On behalf of RUSA/CODES, I would like to thank the librarians who represented RUSA/CODES and the AASL for their hard work on this guide. I would also like to thank the AAUP for continuing to support this guide. The purpose of any collection development guide is to save time, as well as make it easy, for librarians and educators to build their collections. This guide accomplishes both goals successfully.
