Public Library Association (PLA), Letter from the President

Congratulations to the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) on the 20th Edition of “University Press Books Selected for Public and Secondary School Libraries,” an invaluable annual bibliography for public and school librarians. PLA is proud to be affiliated with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the AAUP in this annual effort.

The Public Library Association’s (PLA) partnership with the AAUP dates back to 1991. Over the past twenty years, PLA members have participated in every issue of the University Press Books bibliography, offering their time and expertise to examine, select, rate, and review books. The result is the annual University Press Books for Public and Secondary School Libraries bibliography. This year, for the 2010 edition, PLA’s ‘University Press Books Reviewers Group,’ a PLA Community of Practice (CoP) did the reviewing. PLA thanks them for their excellent work and commitment to this project.

Participation in the UP Books Reviewers Group CoP is just one example of opportunities that PLA members have to get involved with the association and the profession. For more information about PLA volunteer opportunities visit www.pla.org. If you are interested in participating in the PLA UP Books Reviewers CoP, send an email to pla@ala.org

We hope that this publication assists you in the difficult task of meeting the demand for a quality collection at a time when library budgets are stretched to the limit. We want to once again thank our members who participated in this project, and the AAUP for its ongoing commitment to public libraries.
